Century of EndeavourScholarship Group 1949(c)Roy Johnston 2000(comments to rjtechne@iol.ie)
This photo of the 1949 Scholarship group, with the earlier decades represented, could form the basis of an interesting 'diaspora' study. I am not going to try to name all the people, but I am 4th from the left in the back row, and my father (1909) is second from the left, standing. To his right, at the extreme left of the picture, is Owen Sheehy Skeffington (1929). Behind him is Peter Seltman. To my right (ie 3rd from the left, back row) is Reuben Glass, and to my left is Adrian Somerfield. Sixth from the right in the back row is Cecil Jenkins. The group of ladies on the right of the front row are, from left to right, Rose Alexander, Christine Matthews and Juliet Leslie Ellis. At the centre of the front row is Provost Alton.
Some navigational notes:A highlighted number brings up a footnote or a reference. A highlighted word hotlinks to another document (chapter, appendix, table of contents, whatever). In general, if you click on the 'Back' button it will bring to to the point of departure in the document from which you came.Copyright Dr Roy Johnston 1999
