Introductory Note, updated 06/06/08In the current revised catalogue, the authors are (mostly) arranged within groups by topic. There have been significant additions to the 'junior' group. The topic code refers to location: bookcase number, left or right where relevent, shelf number (from the top). Left and right groups are where appropriate separated by some books placed horizontally. The shelves have been given topic labels, to facilitate browsing. The order of books within topic is currently alphabetic by author, except in the case of the Swarthmore Lectures, which are in historical sequence; we hope users will respect this when browsing, and put books back in their correct sequence.Pamphlets and Additional BooksPamphlets are on display above the piano; some historic books are now in Quaker House. Some books are also listed which either have been disposed of or have gone missing; if any turn up we will re-catalogue them if appropriate.Guidelines for Use of the LibraryWe have put up the catalogue in full under Churchtown Meeting in the public area of the web-site, www.quakers-in-ireland.ie (you do not have to go to the members' area, of which the URL is not public). It is 'hotlinked' from this page, so that the scope of the library can be overviewed by people from home, enabling books related to current concerns to be more easily identified, for borrowing at the next meeting. Note that the URL of the members' area of the web-site can at all time be obtained from the Clerk; it should not ever be made known in a public document.NB: Those concerned with guiding the discussions at Junior Meeting are particularly important in this context. A book recently read might usefully be reviewed, and its relevance to current concerns assessed, as a starting-point for a junior meeting discussion. Issues raised in such discussions might generate a search for a book, either in the existing library, or in the public library system, as a target for acquisition. If any such review notes are submitted to the Librarian, in word-processable mode, it will be possible to support the catalogue additionally with these reviews hotlinked to their related book titles. NB: All books borrowed MUST be recorded in the 'Books Borrowed' book, with legible name, date borrowed, title, author, and the date returned. Please place returned books in the cardboard box provided. This will enable the librarian to check their catalog status and return them to their correct location. Members and attenders are invited to submit suggestions for acquisitions, and/or to make donations, of books which relate to Quaker concerns in the past, current concerns, or the shared future vision. Questions and suggestions should go to the Librarian, Roy Johnston, preferably by e-mail (rjtechne at iol dot ie).
